CTA AT SXSW

TA's 3rd annual Innovation Policy Day
stole the show at the 2016 SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, TX. The event,
which was the organization's largest to date, was
a daylong summit that brought together a diverse
group of panelists to discuss the policies that
impact the emerging and disruptive technologies
changing the way we live and work.
Standing room only crowds
heard expert panelists debate
and discuss pressing technology policy issues including
the sharing economy and the
21st century workplace, the
challenges and opportunities of the Internet of Things,
diversity in the technology
industry and the policies
impacting drones and the
future of flight. Highlights
included Black Girls Code
CEO Kimberly Bryant who

discussed what organizations
are doing to increase diversity in the technology sector
as well as the Federal Aviation Administration's Senior
Advisor on UAS Integration,
Marke "Hoot" Gibson, who
led a distinguished panel on
the immense impact drones
are having on a multitude of
consumer and commercial
sectors and what policy battles
could stand in the way of this
technology.
Attendees also had the
opportunity to learn about
CTA's Innovation Movement,
a grassroots campaign that
mobilizes Americans in support of public policies that
encourage and advance American business and shore up the
U.S. economy for future generations. From oversized petitions in support of disruptive
innovation to a photo booth
complete with "innovative"
props, participants learned
about what some exciting companies are doing to spur job
growth and provide consumer
choice and how to get involved
to help fight burdensome laws
and regulations.
Held on the last day of the
SXSW Interactive Festival,
Innovation Policy Day drew
more than 300 attendees from
government, major tech companies, media organizations,
startups, think tanks, universities and local organizations.
