onsumer technologies are changing the way we age and
helping caregivers aid the aging population. CTA and the
Consumer Technology Association Foundation
(CTAF) in its joint report CTA Market Report: Active
Aging, highlighted the growing active aging market, which includes
85 million American adults and caregivers. A strong example of
the innovations occurring in this space
was seen at AARP's fifth Health Innovations@50+ LivePitch event held earlier
this year. Ten finalist companies gave their
best pitch to judges and an audience of
more than 400 consumers. Penrose Senior
Care Auditors won Judge's Choice and
SingFit took home the Consumer's Choice
award. The diverse collection of finalists
and the energetic audience at the event
highlighted the power and opportunity for
technology in the active aging market.
During its two years in business, the
Dallas, TX-based Penrose Senior Care

Auditors has expanded their check-in
services to 20 states and certified more
than 75 auditors. Families sign up for this
service to allow an auditor to visit their
loved ones either in a private residence
or senior living community. The auditor
then uses their app to conduct a 150 item
check on details related to senior's health
and happiness. Finally, the app generates a
report to the family and helps recommend
improvements for care.
SingFit, a previous CES exhibitor,
has a music therapy app crafted for the
senior living industry. This Los Angeles,

CA-based company uses more than 200
hit songs to engage seniors cognitively and
physically while using the scalability of an
app. Based on the growing body of scientific
research on the health benefits of music,
the app brings the power of music to mobile
devices and to older adults across the country.
Terry Bradwell, AARP's chief innovation and strategy officer says, "The amazing
innovations on display by each of the finalists show how technology can aid caregivers and older adults. I am excited for the
continued development of these technologies on display for AARP members at shows
like CES."
