The
Disruption of
Technology
How to leverage disruptive change, plan business strategy
and develop relationships to build on new technologies
is the goal of all companies. States can help by developing
policies to encourage an innovative environment. To help
to measure this progress, CTA has released its third annual
Innovation Scorecard - the innovation performance
index for states (see page 37). Find out which states rank
the highest at CTA.tech/Scorecard.

 A

nd speaking of
disruption, business
and educators are
preparing for new
types of work in this transformative
digital economy. CTA's conference,
the New American Jobs Summit on
May 3, will examine how industry
and government can work together
to create new jobs for workers displaced by technology. The panels will
address questions such as should
government prioritize portable benefits, apprenticeships and internships,
minimum wage, and financial incentives? And can investments in robotics,
infrastructure and smart cities create
new jobs? i3 also asks the experts
what lies ahead for future workers
in our feature "Hire Pursuits."
CTA's Tech Week in April was
a celebration of innovation. The annual
CES on the Hill, held in the Rayburn
Office Building, bustled with the energy
and enthusiasm of startups and larger
brands eager to showcase their
products and services to congressional
and industry leaders as well as media.
See our profile on a few of the engaging
demos on Capitol Hill. The week also
included the Digital Patriots Dinner
and CTA's Lobby Day. These events
inspire, engage and inform CTA
members, government officials and
press. Check out i3's coverage of this
phenomenal week to see innovation
across various categories.

In this issue of i3, we also look at
efforts being made by automakers
to humanize self-driving cars so they
are better at interacting with people
and respond less like robots. And in our
disruptive technology story, we look
at examples of interruption across
several product categories. As the
world financial system moves closer to
a cashless future, where money in coins
or notes is replaced, we review how
Bitcoin is advancing digital currency.
Mark your calendar for CES Asia™
to be held in Shanghai June 7-9.
The show is the premier platform to
highlight the global innovation that
defines the consumer technology
industry in the Asian marketplace.
More than 30,000 attendees from
80 countries come to see advances
from global brands and inspiring
startups - manufacturers, developers
and suppliers showcase new products and create strong business ties
with new and existing industries
in this market. We take a look at how
Shanghai is encouraging innovation.
And finally read the latest CTA
research on how wearable tech is finding a niche in health care. Please send
comments to cstevens@CTA.tech.
