Retissa is the world-first laser retinal
scanning head mounted display with
an integrated projector inside the
frame. Combining red, green, and blue
laser diodes, a full-color laser beam is
generated based on video signals from
HDMI input. The laser is then guided to proper positions on the
retina by a vibrating mirror and reflectors. Direct retinal
projection by the laser beam realizes focus-free images that are
independent of user's visual acuity and/or point of focus. Users
will see projected images without a focal gap to the background.
The technology can be expanded to an accessibility tech, since
focus-free images will be a vision aid for elderlies and people
with visual impairment. Some of them can see the world again
by camera-capturing images. The next generation will be a
medical device.
