board of directors, administration, physicians, nurses
and all care partners are
unwavering in fulfilling the mission to

Everyone all the Time.® The Parrish team
has a daily objective to continuously
improve to better serve you. As a result,
a great many meaningful healthcarerelated awards have been earned on
behalf of the patients, families and community we have the honor to serve. High
care and safety standards are set and
achieved. The recognition follows.
In February, the Patient Safety
Movement Foundation's 6th Annual World
Patient Safety, Science & Technology
Summit took place in London, with healthcare practitioners and industry leaders
from at least 25 countries.
Parrish was recognized as the world's
first hospital to earn the foundation's
Five-Star Award, which acknowledges
Parrish for implementing all of the
foundation's actionable patient safety
solutions and committing to eliminate
preventable hospital errors by 2020.
In recent years, Parrish has been
named Florida's safest hospital by
Consumer Reports; been named Florida's
No. 1 hospital for patient safety, quality of care and patient experience by
the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services; and earned multiple other care
and safety honors.
Parrish isn't a hospital with unlimited
resources at its disposal. So how do we
do it? Commitment! That commitment

comes from the heart and from a sincere
love and respect for our community.
Here are just a few examples of
actionable patient safety commitments
Parrish has made.
First: Preventing sudden infant death
syndrome. Parrish was the first hospital in
Brevard, and is one of a few in the U.S., to
adopt a proven infant safety model from
Finland: the Baby Box. The Baby Box is an
instant safe-sleeping space for a newborn.
Parrish has been providing free Baby
Boxes for two years, and there have been
no co-bedding deaths in our population.
Second: Around 2006, Parrish Medical
Center adopted a ventilator safety
program. Since then, no person hospitalized at PMC has acquired ventilatorassociated pneumonia.
Third: The board of directors and PMC
leadership have made mental health, suicide prevention and the opioid epidemic
patient safety priorities. I look forward to
sharing the outcomes of our efforts.
I am also proud to share that PMC's
Community Cancer Program once again
earned accreditation from the American
College of Surgeons' Commission on
Cancer (CoC). PMC's cancer program
has been accredited since 1989, making
it Brevard's longest continuously serving
certified program.
It is through safe practices like these
that Parrish safeguards lives. Why do we
do this? Because safety matters!
