You're a momma bear.

We all know by now that having a baby changes your body
in many ways, weight gain being just one of them. "It isn't
just new moms that have to fight off extra pounds-it's
moms of toddlers, too," notes Dr. Vicknair. "The bottom
line is, regardless of how old a child is, moms often opt
for convenience over nutrition to keep up with their
busy schedules."
The simple solution:
Leave the mac and cheese to your child while you find
a healthier option.
Sleep when you can-even if it means adjusting to
their napping schedule.
Include your child when you exercise, whether it's
getting out the stroller or playing a game of tag.
Self care is not optional. When you're giving to others,
you need to refuel.

You've joined the 30+ club.

Unfortunately, it isn't just a myth that weight loss gets
harder once you hit the big 3-0. "In fact, you'll be burning
at least five fewer calories a day, which can add up," says Dr.
Vicknair. "This shift in metabolism is often more noticeable
in women than men."
The simple solution:
Make strength training a priority. After all, more
muscle means a higher metabolism.
Ignore those fad diets and focus on eating protein,
while minimizing sugar and carbs.
Start a food journal. Even when you're tired,
tracking what you're eating will help keep you organized
and focused.

You've made it
through menopause.

It isn't just a slower metabolism and less muscle mass
that's to blame when it comes to weight gain during and
after menopause. "During this transitional time, changes
in hormone levels make weight gain more likely, especially
around the hips and abdomen," says Dr. Vicknair. "On
average, women gain 10 to 15 pounds during menopause."
The simple solution:
Your best friends are protein, healthy fats and fiber.
Try eating smaller, more frequent meals every three
to four hours.
Explore medical options for hormone stability.
Weight lifting, weight lifting and more weight lifting.
Remember that strength training is key. ■
