Therefore, the treatment plan should be different and the surgery for morbid obesity should be carefully chosen. The three-year results from isolated laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) performed in the Korean population are reported. We retrospectively reviewed 150 patients who underwent LSG from January 2003 to July 2006. Eightythree of these patients had more than three years of follow-up and represent the subject of this report. Sleeve gastrectomy was performed laparoscopically using Endo-GIA stapler to create a lesser curve gastric tube over 48-Fr bougie. We used a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) (Figure 1) and New York Metropolitan Insurance table to check the ideal I body weight. The preoperative body mass index (BMI) was 36.6±4.9 (30.0–56.1). The percent excess weight loss (EWL) after postoperative one, two, and three years were 88.0±26.8, 87.0±35.8, and 84.3±38.1 in BIA, respectively, which were 71.1±22.2, 69.1±28.6, and 66.8±30.4 in the New York Metropolitan Insurance table, respectively (Figure 2). The percent of excess BMI loss (%EBMIL) after one, two, and three years (Figure 3) was 72.6±24.1, 70.9±31.1, and 68.7±32.7, respectively (Figure 4). Weight loss plateaued at 18 months for the majority of patients. According to the Reinhold’s classification (Figure 5), of 83 patients three years postoperatively, 37 patients (44.6%) had greater than 75percent EBMIL, 22 patients SUPPLEMENT A] [JUNE 2008, Bariatric Times 13
