Moreno CH, Neto HJ, Junior AH, Malheiros CA. Obes Surg. 2008 Jun 11. [Epub ahead of print] Synopsis: Authors evaluated the effect of the thighplasty on the lymphatic system by prospectively analyzing the results of lymphoscintigraphy performed before and six months after thighplasty in 14 patients. They found that eight of the patients (30.8%) demonstrated abnormal lymphoscintigraphy after thighplasty, and conclude that the thigh lift changes lymphatic drainage in lower extremities. PMID: 18546051 Current concepts in medial thighplasty. Mathes DW, Kenkel JM. Clin Plast Surg. 2008 Jan;35(1):151–163. Review. Synopsis: Authors describe their approach to medial thigh lift in patients who have undergone traditional weight loss and as well as the massive weight loss patient. PMID: 18061810 Single-staged total body lift after massive weight loss. Hurwitz DJ. Ann Plast Surg. 2004 May;52(5):435–441; discussion 441. Synopsis: The author reports on single-staged total body lift in eight massive weight loss patients, and concludes that this method is effective and safe in selected patients after massive weight loss when performed by a plastic surgeon and team experienced in body contouring surgery. PMID: 15096919 Thigh reduction in the massive weight loss patient. Cram A, Aly A. Clin Plast Surg. 2008 Jan;35(1):165–172. Review. Synopsis: In this paper, authors describe a technique of thigh reduction specifically designed for the massive weight loss patient who presents with extensive thigh deformity. PMID: 18061811 Body lift: an account of 200 consecutive cases in the massive weight loss patient. Nemerofsky RB, Oliak DA, Capella JF. Plast Reconstr Surg. 2006 Feb;117(2):414–430. Synopsis: Authors review the charts of 200 consecutive body lift patients who had undergone massive weight loss, and discuss preoperative markings, current surgical technique, outcomes, and postoperative care. PMID: 16462321 Correcting the saddlebag deformity in the massive weight loss patient. Hurwitz DJ, Rubin JP, Risin M, et al. Plast Reconstr Surg. 2004 Oct;114(5):1313–1325. Synopsis: In this article, authors retrospectively review three years of surgical experience with correcting severe saddlebag deformity and midthigh laxity in the massive weight loss patient. Authors conclude that keys to success are meticulous planning, careful isolation, tight closure of the lateral trunk and thigh subcutaneous fascial system, and artistic contouring of remaining tissues. PMID: 15457056 Body lift. Capella JF. Clin Plast Surg. 2008 Jan;35(1):27–51; discussion 93. Review. Synopsis: Author describes a method of body lift as an alternative for treatment of body contour deformity of the bariatric surgery patient. PMID: 18061797 BODY CONTOURING Psychological considerations of the bariatric surgery patient undergoing body contouring surgery. Sarwer DB, Thompson JK, Mitchell JE, Rubin JP. Plast Reconstr Surg. 2008 Jun;121(6):423e–434e. Synopsis: Authors consider the psychological considerations of the postoperative bariatric surgery patient who undergoes body contouring surgery by reviewing the psychosocial and physical characteristics of these patients, describing the changes in these traits that occur after surgery, discussing the relationship of body image dissatisfaction to bariatric and plastic surgery, and reviewing the literature on breast reduction. PMID: 18520869 Body image and quality of life in post massive weight loss body contouring patients. Song AY, Rubin JP, Thomas V, et al. Obesity (Silver Spring). 2006 Sep;14(9):1626–36. Synopsis: To help document body image and weight-related quality of life in post-bariatric surgery patients who undergo massive weight loss, authors analyzed the results of surveys administered pre-body contouring (after massive weight loss) and 3- and 6-month post-body contouring of 18 patients who underwent both bariatric surgery and body contouring. They found that body contouring improved body image, but produced dissatisfaction with other parts of the body, suggesting that as patients become closer to their ideal, the ideal may shift. PMID: 17030974 Body contouring following massive weight loss resulting from bariatric surgery. Chandawarkar RY. Adv Psychosom Med. 2006;27:61–72. Synopsis: In this article, author discusses body contouring, including include breast, thigh and lower body lift, abdominoplasty, face and neck lifts as well as brachioplasty or arm lift. PMID: 16418543 Impact of significant weight loss on outcome of body contouring surgery. Sanger C, David LR. Ann Plast Surg. 2006 Jan;56(1):9–13; discussion 13. Synopsis: Authors report the results of a retrospective chart review of 26 extreme weight loss patients who underwent body contouring from 2001 to 2004, and discuss age, gender, amount of weight lost, comorbidities, tobacco use, weight loss method, type of body contouring procedure and presence of complications. They found the percentage of complications in their patient population to be significantly higher than reported in the literature for the general population undergoing an abdominoplasty, and discuss possible explanations. PMID: 16374088 Bariatric and body contouring surgery: a continuum of care for excess and lax skin. Zuelzer HB, Baugh NG. Plast Surg Nurs. 2007 Jan-Mar;27(1):3–13; quiz 14–15. Synopsis: Authors discuss prebariatric planning for plastic surgery to correct skin defects, and postoperative bariatric and body contouring care. PMID: 17356449 INTRAGASTRIC BAND MIGRATION Experiences of two centers of bariatric surgery in the treatment of intragastrale band migration after gastric banding—the importance of the German
