Following that, the area’s first openheart surgery and first cardiac catheterization are performed. Florida Hospital Apopka joins the family. One of the first CT scanners in the nation is installed. Florida Hospital Cancer Institute opens with a major contribution from the Walt Disney Family. Florida Hospital Celebration Health and the 365,000-squarefoot RDV Sportsplex in conjunction with the Orlando Magic open. Emergency air transport begins as the helipad is built along Lake Estelle. Florida Hospital is also selected by NASA as the backup landing facility in the event of emergencies at Cape Canaveral. Florida Hospital East Orlando, Kissimmee and Winter Park Memorial become part of the family.
