Take Florida Hospital’s Mission Florida Hospital is grateful to every one of its supporters $ 10 a paycheck—A pledge by a pediatric nurse in honor of her grandfather. 20 volunteer hours a week—A donation of time and love caring for preemies in the neonatal intensive care unit. $ 20 million—The heart of one extraordinary family to help heal the hearts of others. to Heart There are countless stories like these of people whose hearts and lives have been touched by Florida Hospital. They have felt an inner calling to give back and to help others. From the community member who sold his house in 1908 to help buy the original 20-bed Florida Hospital to the little girl who received a new kidney and now makes special teddy bears for children at Florida Hospital, there are an immeasurable number of people who believe in Florida Hospital and making the community better. “We are grateful to our patients, doctors and nurses, our employees and our community for embracing Florida Hospital and being inspired by our mission and vision to bring the very best health care to our community,” says Terry Newmyer, chief development officer of the Florida Hospital Foundation. “Our next 100 years are going to be exciting. We have recently seen organizations such as Walt Disney World donate $10 million to our children’s hospital to ensure that every child has the very best medical care and has the opportunity to play, exercise their imaginations and dream. THANK YOU! “We’ve seen Central Florida leaders such as Chuck Braun and the Nicholson family support the hospital because they want to invest in their community and provide faith-based health care for all people. “Our doctors, nurses and employees are saying, ‘I want to do more.’ And they are. The Florida Emergency Physicians, for example, made a significant $1 million contribution, and our nurses and employees donated over $2.5 million through the 1908 Society, an internal employee giving program. “Lastly, the giving of the heart is just as important,” Newmyer says. “Our volunteer program is extensive. We need people to help provide compassion and support to patients as patient companions; cultivate a peaceful atmosphere by bringing art to patients’ bedsides through music, painting and writing; or pray and visit with patients and families.” How You Can Give Back • Volunteer • Make a donation • Structure a planned gift in your will • Get a tax break and give an end-of-year gift • Shop at any of the more than 600 stores on igive.com/fhf • Sponsor or attend a Florida Hospital fundraising event Florida Hospital’s Golden Gala XXVIII on Nov. 16 and 17 celebrates the organization’s 100 years of care.
