Best in Care - Centennial Issue - (Page 4) MATTERS OF THE HEART s a longtime resident of Central Florida, Alan H. Ginsburg values his community and believes in giving back. Recently, he and the Ginsburg Family Foundation donated $20 million to Florida Hospital to support the Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute. This unprecedented gift is the largest in the history of the hospital and one that will save millions of hearts. Ginsburg talks about why his family chose to give to Florida Hospital and how the gift will give heart patients new hope. One Family’s Gift to Many Q A Q An interview with Alan H. Ginsburg, whose family is saving the hearts of others Why did you give $20 million to Florida Hospital? Ginsburg: “My family and I believe in Florida Hospital’s faith-based mission of providing total care, including the mind, body and spirit. This gift will allow people of all faiths to have a healing sanctuary where they can receive the very best heart care in the nation right here in their own backyard. This is a way for us to give something meaningful to our community and also remember our family. We wanted to do something very special in memory of my late wife, Harriet, and my son, Jeffrey, who were killed in a tragic plane accident several years ago. This is a gift from our whole family.” How will your donation be used? Ginsburg: “It will be used to support the Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute that will be housed in the new tower at Florida Hospital Orlando. This involves bringing to Central Florida the most advanced cardiovascular technology available, including the new Stereotaxis lab. This lab will allow physicians to perform very precise cardiovascular procedures. Through computerized, remote control and magnetic technology, a physician can navigate a tiny wire through your veins and into your heart, destroying tissue and restoring a healthy heart rhythm. It is more accurate, safer than the traditional procedure and has amazing outcomes. This is the only technology of its kind in Central Florida, and Florida Hospital is one of very few hospitals in the country to have it.” Q To learn about how you can give from the heart and change the health of Central Florida, see the special Centennial Society giving card between pages 8 and 9, call the Florida Hospital Foundation at 407-303-1700 or visit floridahospitalfoundation.org. 4I e 15-story tower being built at Florida Hospital Orlando has been named the Ginsburg Tower in honor of your gift. How does that make you feel? ARE YOU FEELING INSPIRED? Ginsburg: “I’m touched. My whole family is touched. It’s not about putting our name on a building for us; it’s about doing something that will benefit this community for years to come and it’s about helping a great hospital become even better. The fact that we get to remember Harriet and Jeffrey in the process is wonderful.” Q How do you hope this gift will inspire others to give? Ginsburg: “Every gift should be an invitation to inspire others to embrace the cause, and in this case, it is providing funds for God’s common ground, the hospital. There are a lot of people in this community who can make a difference and I hope they will step up to the plate and do their part.” Embracing the past.
