Putting patients New high-tech Surgery Center brings the latest advancements in patient care to your neighborhood 1 I I All-new, high-tech operating rooms. All eight operating rooms are larger than Marymount’s former operating rooms to provide space for the new technology used in today’s operating room suite. This includes: OR integration: Technology that streams real-time information to and from operating rooms. Surgeons can get up-to-the-second data about a patient’s pathology, radiology and other ﬁndings. High-deﬁnition video: 26-inch ceiling monitors and one 42-inch wall monitor that give the surgery team clearer-than-ever views of the surgery site for minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopy or laparoscopy. LED lighting: Provides exceptional illumination of the surgery site. Plus, LEDs use less energy and produce less heat, so surgery teams no longer need chilly operating rooms to offset hot lights. Marymount operating rooms now are kept at standard, warmer temperatures. Research shows that warmer temperatures not only keep patients more comfortable but also help their bodies heal better. ﬁrst AT 7:30 A.M. ON MONDAY, APRIL 2, hospital staff welcomed the ﬁrst patient to a whole new era of surgery at Marymount Hospital. It was the grand opening of the new Marymount Hospital Surgery Center—part of a 45,000-square-foot hospital expansion. Moreover, every detail of the new state-of-the-art facility and high-tech surgical suites was chosen to improve patient outcomes. “Evidence-based research shows that everything in a caregiving environment affects healing,” says Pete Flauto, MS, BSN, CNOR, director of Perioperative Services. That’s why “patients ﬁrst” was the recurring theme as clinicians, administrators and contractors determined the arrangement for the rooms and hallways, the technology systems, the sights and sounds, and even the temperature of the hospital addition. Today, Marymount patients can experience the results ﬁrsthand. Beyond the spacious, light-ﬁlled atrium lobby and the serene secondﬂoor welcoming area for surgery patients, the new Marymount Hospital Surgery Center features: 6 HEALTH ESSENTIALS I 2 Anesthesia alert system. An anesthesia record-keeping system and a Philips monitor help the anesthesia team keep a watchful eye on the patient’s vital signs. If the system detects a concern during surgery, it automatically alerts other anesthesiologists to provide support through a pager-like system, so the anesthesia provider in the room can focus on patient care knowing assistance activation has been triggered. In addition, the anesthesia record will be incorporated into the patient’s electronic medical record for easy computer access to all providers. 3 Surgical processing department. Marymount’s new surgical processing department, which cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments, is state-of-the-art and three times larger than the former space.
