Hill Country Health - Winter 2009 - (Page 2) Mr. and Mrs. Randy Bullock recreate the magic moment from 25 years ago to the day, when they welcomed their daughter, Diana Renee, into the world and helped CTMC create history in its new facility. A Banner Day ‘First Baby’ returns for groundbreaking T he rst baby born at Central Texas Medical Center on Wonder World Drive in 1983 was the highlight of the 25th Anniversary and Groundbreaking celebration. e event was held on the site where the facility’s two-story, 64,000-square-foot, $35 million expansion is slated to open in late 2009. e “baby,” Diana Bullock Ormand, returned to CTMC with her family to participate in the activities. More than 200 physicians, employees, volunteers and community leaders braved the Central Texas a ernoon sun to participate in the ceremony, which also recognized current physicians, volunteers, employees and board members who were present when the hospital opened in 1983. A Sense of Family Speaker a er speaker, including San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz and Hays County Judge Liz Sumter shared personal testimonies about the di erence CTMC has made in their lives and the lives of their families and community. Lucy Leal, a 48-year veteran of CTMC who spoke on behalf of her CTMC associates, said it was the sense of family that keeps her coming to work. “ is was a very special and momentous day for us,” says President and CEO Gary Jepson. “It was a true privilege to participate in such a moving ceremony and be reminded of all the wonderful things our health ministry does each day.” e addition will include a new Childbirth Center, a Level II Neonatal Critical Care Unit, a new cardiac telemetry inpatientnursing unit, and an expansion and renovation of the surgical suites. Upon completion, CTMC will grow to a 139-bed facility with all-private rooms. Because I ended up being the rst baby born there, the hospital graciously o ered to pay for everything. God was working through the hospital then, and I look forward to what He will do in the future.” Several of CTMC’s and our community’s nest gathered to o cially break ground on the new wing.
