CTMC Shines Bright for the Hearts of Central Texans Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) received accreditation as a certified chest pain center earlier this fall from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). is enhances the hospital’s ability to receive and treat patients suffering from chest pain or a possible heart attack through a collaborative effort between the hospital, first responders and cardiac specialists. “Great things are going on at CTMC,” says Anna Ek, BSN, RN accreditation specialist with SCPC. “ e misconception among many Americans is that you have to go to a big city to get quality specialty cardiac care. You really don’t. CTMC is doing some very special things that we plan to share with other cardiac facilities around the country.” CTMC’s certified Chest Pain Center created special collaborative partnerships between the hospital, area EMS providers, CTMC emergency room physicians and Austin Heart cardiologists who staff CTMC. Plans are under way to expand CTMC’s specialty cardiac services, including an interventional cardiac catheterization lab in 2012. Proceeds from the recent Stars of Texas Gala will help fund the expansion.
