JW MARRIOTT SCOTTSDALE CAMELBACK INN® RESORT & SPA Scottsdale, Arizona Camelback Golf Club THE LAYOUT The Club offers two 18-hole courses, Padre and Indian Bend. In all, 350 acres are tucked away in Paradise Valley. The Padre course was redesigned by Arthur Hills in 1999/2000 and presents a change-up from most of the desert golf layouts in the area, with a serene parkland links feel—as well as lots of water and undulating greens. Indian Bend is currently undergoing a complete $9.3 million renovation by leading environmental architects Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry, with 12 of the course’s 18 holes to be brand new by October 2013. The Camelback Golf Club is a three-mile ride from the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. Shuttle service runs frequently and can also be prearranged to suit your tee time. CLUB THAT WILL HELP YOU MOST Your putter. Hills has engineered plenty of movement on these greens, so rolling the ball well will come in handy. DON’T MISS The serenity of a course with much more green than you’re used to in the desert. Enjoy the native grasses, towering pines, eucalyptus and striking views of Mummy Mountain, especially on number nine as you’re looking toward the clubhouse lake and waterfall. PRE-ROUND FUELING Camelback’s cuisine offers plenty of healthful breakfast choices to get you going, from smoothies to whole grain blueberry pancakes. Snag a house-made raspberry protein bar for the turn. RELAXATION ASSISTANCE Same enticing frozen goods on beverage carts as at Desert Ridge. IT’S EASY HERE For those of us who need a bit more time warming and loosening up, the Spa offers a 30-minute assisted stretching session that’s designed to increase your range of motion. WORKING OUT THE KINKS It’s almost mandatory to take on extra heat in the desert. For curing whatever you’ve got coiled up, try the Spa’s Native Hot Stone Massage, then lounge poolside and surrender to the Sonoran Desert views. EXTRA BONUS The Inn’s incredibly chic BLT Steak restaurant from award-winning Chef Laurent Tourondel is the perfect place post round. For instant nirvana, start with a “Cowboy Killer” Manhattan, then follow it up with the Wagyu Skirt Steak. J WM MAGAZINE 58 J W M A R R I O T T. C O M
