Lori of Baltimore presided over a joyous blessing service celebrating the “new” University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and its continuing Catholic identity. Earlier in December, UM-St. Joseph joined the University of Maryland Medical System, a private, not-for-proﬁt entity, as its ﬁrst faith-based institution, where loving service and compassionate care are an integral part of the hospital’s mission. In his remarks, Archbishop Lori spoke about the importance of maintaining the hospital’s 148-year-old Catholic identity, which involves adherence to church teaching, helping the poor and caring for the totality of a patient’s mind, body and spirit. During the ceremony, blessings also were delivered by Rabbi Steven M. Fink of Temple Oheb Shalom and Imam Earl El-Amin of the Muslim Community Cultural Center of Baltimore. The partnership begins a new chapter in UM-St. Joseph’s proud history. Need a Primary Care Doctor? He earned a master’s degree in biology with a focus on molecular biology from the University of Maryland. Dr. Koltz completed his internal medicine residency training at University of Maryland Medical Center and has an undergraduate degree in biology from Virginia Tech. Dr. Koltz has a particular interest in managing and treating chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease and kidney disease. A Silver Spring native, Dr. Goodman worked in private practice for seven years, after which he joined University of Maryland. He comes to St. Joseph from Mercy Medical Center.
