A
ll across the United
States, the need for
mental health services
is on the rise. Here
in Harford County, statistics for
suicide, anxiety disorders and
mental health-related emergency
visits are higher than those of
the state overall; keeping up with
the number of cases is a huge
challenge. Fortunately, there is
a unique, local program that
helps to address the needs in
our community.
Led by a team of psychiatrists,
social workers, nurses, occupational therapists and other

significant emotional difficulties
and need more intensive therapeutic treatment," explains Pamela
Llewellyn, LCSW-C, manager
of Outpatient, Social Work, and
Psychotherapy Services.
IOP participants attend intensive group therapy sessions for
three hours a day, three days a
week, while the specific length of
treatment varies based on each
individual's needs.
The highly beneficial group
therapy environment helps
people explore their patterns
of thinking and behaving and
learn that they are not alone
in their life experiences. It provides a unique opportunity for
them to learn about how they
understand and interact with
others, too.
"Our goal is to provide a compassionate, person-centered environment where personal struggles
and difficulties are transformed
into opportunities for growth and
healing," Llewellyn says.
