QRA Varicose Veins Learn what causes varicose veins and how they can be treated Doctors at the Memorial Vein Center are experts in treating varicose veins, among other vascular conditions. Surgeons David Corry, Greg Carlson, Karl Dittrich, Scott Hurlbert and M. Annette Seagraves, are all board-certified in Dr. David Corry vascular surgery. Here, Dr. Corry tells us more about this medical issue. WhaT are VarICOSe VeInS? Varicose veins are a significant and frequent cause of complaints involving the legs. Varicose veins are those that have become enlarged because of abnormal blood flow from leaflet valves in the veins, which prevent blood from flowing backward. hOW are They TreaTed? Newer techniques have evolved in contemporary varicose vein treatment, and fortunately, hospital-based surgery is rarely, if ever, required. Using laser-catheter technology and local anesthesia, office-based varicose vein treatment is accomplished by closing the superficial (saphenous) vein, which encourages blood flow through other normal, more efficient leg veins. Recovery time is much faster than traditional vein stripping, with some patients going back to normal activities as early as the next day and most within the first few days. WhO IS MOST aT rISk? All ages and genders are affected, from adolescents to the elderly, with the most common being women who have had children and men who stand or sit for long periods of time without walking. Patients who have suffered a blood clot in the leg veins are also at risk for developing varicose veins when the clot itself damages leg valves. COME SEE US TODAY!
