COVER FEATURED “we heard from the community that it was just too expensive to attend games, so our strategy was to make sure everyone in Flagstaff could afford to come out.” —LISA CAMPoS Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics “NAU is a special place, and I am thrilled to be here,” Darling says. ”Dr. haeger has reinvigorated NAU athletics with his vision and commitment, and I look forward to making NAU women’s basketball a source of great pride and tradition for us all.” While the rapid-fire changes drew attention, an important element of the athletics program — and a personal commitment of the president — remained constant: academic performance. Still, he welcomed the ticket price reductions because attendance faltered last season. “having fans in the stands makes a difference,” he says. “The energy that a large crowd can provide for an athlete — that’s an edge we have to have.” And it’s not the only edge.
