Lauren Brown, '07 BA, joins the city of Sedona, Ariz., as the first citizens engagement coordinator. The role of this newly created position is to communicate with citizens, organize volunteer programs and serve as a conduit for public comments and ideas. She has served on the Parks and Recreation Commission and share was secretary for the northern branch of the Arizona Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The city of Maricopa, Ariz., named Brady Leffler, '07 MED, interim fire chief. He most recently served as deputy chief of the Upper Pine River Fire District of Bayfield, Colo. Kimberly Cawthon, '08 BS & '13 MFA, authored a short story that was selected from more than 100 entries to be published in an anthology by Malinki Press. Kimberly, also a playwright and an educator, is working on her first novel. After completing his undergraduate degree in chemistry, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic for four years. He is involved with the College of Human Medicine's Family Medicine Interest Group, where he coordinates extracurricular health activities. He also volunteers with the FitKids360 program, which promotes healthy eating and physical fitness habits to children. Mary Plante, '08 BA Gila Ridge High School of Yuma, Ariz., welcomes Mary Plante, '08 BA, as its new drama teacher. Involved in performing arts since she was 8, Mary recently received the Helios Award for young artists/art supporters during the Tribute of the Muses awards ceremony. Wayne Bryden, '08 BAILS, has authored One Foot in Hell: An American Addiction Story that Could Help You or Someone You Know Get Well, sharing his 34-year battle with substance abuse. John-Paul Hodnett, '09 BS, announced the discovery of a nowextinct species of shark. Found in the Kaibab limestone formation near Kachina Village just south of Flagstaff, diablodontus, the "Devil Tooth" shark, may be an ancestor of the leopard shark. 2010s Gail Rankin, '11 MADM, was highlighted in an article by ExplorerNews.com for her innovative work at Sonora, the health center of Splendido, a senior community in Tucson, Ariz. Among her initiatives, residents can now use iPads to Skype with family members, as well as receive medical consultation from a program called Ask Mayo Clinic. Army specialist Aisha Richards, '11 BS, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. She received instruction in various armed and unarmed combat methods during the nine-week course. David Luna, '12 EDD, has been appointed by the Mesa City Council of Mesa, Ariz., to serve as a council member for District 5. He is the director of education television for Mesa Public Schools and will serve as council member until late Aug. 2014. The Cambridge Preparatory Academy welcomes Namsey Bridgeford, '12 MED, as kindergarten instructor. The Zug, Switzerland, native has taught for 21 years in California and Arizona, and in her free time enjoys horseback riding, hiking, traveling, music and art. Amy Gang, '12 BA Thespian Amy Gang, '12 BA, performed in the comedy Wally's Café, produced by the Woodinville Repertory Theatre of Woodinville, Wash. She played the role of Janet (pictured), an aspiring actress and singer who is forced to work at the café to support herself. nau.edu/alumni Chloe Hudson, '12 BSED International teacher Chloe Hudson, '12 BSED, completed her first year instructing English as a second language in Abu Dhabi. From her home base in the United Arab Emirates, Chloe has traveled to London, Paris and Beijing. This lucky globetrotter also spent five additional weeks traveling through Europe before returning to begin her second year of teaching. Former NAU basketball guard Gabe Rogers, '13 BS, was selected by the Erie Bayhawks in the eighth round of the NBA Developmental League draft. The Bayhawks serve as the minor league team for the New York Knicks.
