Cozy sCents, evening treats and
produCts that pull double duty
are the high points of the season
1. Laura Mercier Luxe TraveL Brush coLLecTion
Nine brushes, from eyeliner and cheek to powder and foundation, come in
this richly colored burgundy-brown clutch with a magnetic leopard-printed
closure. The tools themselves come in a zipper case that can be removed, so
the bag becomes an ideal accessory for an evening out.
2. La Prairie anTi-aging eye & LiP PerfecTion À PorTer
You touch up your makeup throughout the day, so why not your skin care?
This circular travel case holds quick fixes for tired eyes and chapped lips in
one stacked compact. The top layer is a plumping primer for the eye, which
can be used throughout the day to hydrate the skin, making lines less visible.
The bottom is a big upgrade from Chapstick - a silky balm that moisturizes
lips, giving them just the slightest sheen.
3. DeBorah LiPPMann gLiTTer anD Be gay naiL PoLish
The trend for textured glitter polish can be traced directly to editorial manicurist
Deborah Lippmann. Since first experimenting with the shiny stuff backstage
at fashion shows, she has become known for an impressive array of sparkly,
chunky lacquers in every color of the rainbow. This yellow gold shade has a
mixture of small and large metallic glitters that look especially festive when
paired with a cocktail ring or two.
4. ToM forD for Men skin reviTaLizing concenTraTe
Tom Ford has set his sights on men with a complete range that takes into
account the differences in their skin. (It's known to be more oily, more easily
irritated from shaving, and more likely to perspire - though who knows
whether the smooth-skinned Ford has experienced such things.) There is a
bronzing gel and a concealer in the collection, but this pre- or postshave
serum is one of the most essential. It's a dry oil that mattifies and hydrates
skin, with a bergamot, vanilla and patchouli scent that calms the senses.
5. aerin aMBer Musk
When Aerin Lauder decided to step into the fragrance fray, she did it with not
one scent, but five, all of which are tied to childhood memories, including
those of her with her grandmother, Estée. Among them are Gardenia Rattan,
which echoes the blue Mediterranean and straw furniture she remembers
from trips to the south of France; Lilac Path, which is reminiscent of American
summers; and Amber Musk, which calls to mind Colorado in the wintertime.
The latter owes it enveloping aroma to the synthetic molecule ambrox, which
has what Lauder calls a "musky, fluffy warmth," as well as rose and coconut.

It is the goal of many natural and organic brands to deliver plant-based
ingredients that yield visible results. In many cases, the intentions are there,
but the follow-through is not. For its latest cream, Aromatherapy Associates
uses Alpine Rose stem cells for environmental protection, encapsulated forms
of sodium hyaluronate for skin plumping throughout the day, and hydrolyzed
yeast proteins to assist with DNA repair. The end result is a complexion that is
moisturized from the outside in, and supported from the inside out.
