editor’s letter Telling Your Special Story A wedding is an occasion for a bride and groom to reflect their life experiences in an artful event that tells their story as a couple. Looking back, every wedding I’ve ever been to has been a personal reflection of the bride and groom. There’s the seaside Caribbean wedding of a pair of lawyer friends; every detail was perfect. The wedding of friends who were world travelers. Held in a New York City loft, it was chic and sophisticated. And so them. And at my own New England wedding, my mother and I created handmade tote bags filled with beach goodies and personal notes for each of our guests. These tokens of affection were just one of the special touches that made my wedding day unforgettable. Collectively, the details of the event tell a story that my husband and I continue writing to this day. When it comes to writing your own wedding tale, there really are no better storytellers than the ladies and gentleman of The Ritz-Carlton. The custom experiences they create for brides and grooms around the world are limited only by the imagination. So to help spark yours, we’ve devoted this issue of Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton to a bespoke theme, with ideas and inspiration for beginning your unique wedding story with us. First, we take you to The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe where a cozy lodge, romantic spa, gondolas and snowflakes make for an unconventional — and magical — wedding backdrop. Of course, you may prefer a grand ballroom or a sandy beach to a snow-covered mountaintop. Whatever your pleasure, there is a Ritz-Carlton property ready to make your wedding dreams come true. For brides, those dreams often start with their dress. We take you behind the scenes with a Ritz-Carlton bride who had the ultimate experience: a gown custom-made by a world-renowned designer. Plus, a Paris perfume icon and master jeweler explore the steps of creating a bespoke fragrance and a dazzling, oneof-a-kind ring that carries on for generations. And certainly no Ritz-Carlton wedding is complete without a delectable menu. With the help of chefs from properties around the world, we demonstrate how sumptuous menu items can be presented in different ways for different party moods. Enjoy this issue. And remember, “Your Dreams. Our Pleasure.” Jamie Hoffman Editor in Chief 16 w e d d i n g s b y t h e r i t z - c a r lt o n photograph (top) Lucas aLLen
