your dreams · inspiration Golden slumber oftentimes, people view marriage nuptials as a transition from youth to adulthood — regardless of the age when someone says “I do.” so when a bride-to-be was planning her wedding festivities, and happened to mention that she was considering having a few close friends spend the night before her wedding, the staff of The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park thought of an ideal way to herald her new life: a good oldfashioned slumber party. the bride, they learned, was a lover of all things Disney. so, they scoured their favorite shops to find just the right accoutrements — Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed animals, Mickey Mouse blankets and pillows, little Mermaid dinnerware and the like. then, they re-arranged the bride’s suite for optimal popcorn-eating, movie-watching, slumber-party bliss, complete with down comforters on the floor, specially monogrammed ritz-carlton jammies, and Disney cupcakes and other themed treats. the little Mermaid soundtrack was even playing when the bride walked into the room. she was taken completely by surprise, stunned that the staff pulled together a one-of-its-kind experience based on a passing comment made months earlier. but very quickly, she and her guests dived into slumber-party mode, staying up until the wee hours of the morning ... just like kids. During the planning process, the bride and groom told the staff that they wanted three things: the color yellow, “bling” and an elegant experience that was unique and over-the-top. Because there was no upper limit to their budget, the old rules of wedding planning didn’t apply. So, together with vendors, the resort completely transformed the ceremony and reception venues. For the ceremony, as an example, the cliff-side gazebo was carpeted, draped and surrounded by flowers. Pictured at right, the walkway to the Great Bay Ballroom was also carpeted and lined by yellow flowers. The sunny color was also integrated into the reception decor (left). Among the many special touches: an air-conditioned, glass-enclosed room was custom-built onto the terrace outside of the ballroom. In addition to including a large stage for a band, it also had a dance floor with a monogrammed-marble center. The bars were also custommade with the couple’s monogram and are now at the groom’s family home as décor. The monogram was also prominently displayed on specialty dessert displays, bathrobes and towels during the couple’s say. According to the couple, the event was “blinged” to perfection.
