into your wedding reception, using them as inspiration for an overall design, recommends Cortnie Purdy, event designer of Canvas & Canopy Events, who planned this wedding tabletop. “The mixing of random materials can be so magical,” she says. Inspired by sand dunes, fossils and archeological digs in Egypt, the earthy colors and textures look sophisticated paired with metallic touches. Vintage chargers edged with gold filigree help formalize a table set with handmade earthenware plates. Cleopatra-esque jewelry adorns shimmery art deco printed napkins beside a blend of flatware in shiny gold and antiqued silver. Hand-painted with textural details, the menu and place cards are made from raw papyrus paper. Fuchsia peonies in alabaster vases add a bold pop of color to the muted desert hues and create an overall romantic feel. table 2 C R E AT E T H E LO O K : ’ . “Celebrate locally grown resources from your reception location. It can save on design costs while creating a simple elegance,” says Aimee Monihan, principal designer of Tropical Occasions and Mountain Occasions. Blending several centerpieces at each table enhances the variety of textures. A stem of Phalaenopsis orchids placed in green glass bottles combines with bent tropical orchids in square teak boxes. The aromatic fragrance of roasted co ee beans in glass hurricanes perk up guests’ senses. Recycled burlap co ee bags act as runners and complement the textural rattan chargers. Looking for a fresh idea? A lime, placed at each setting, includes a strip of paper with the guest’s name cleverly belted around it. The end result? Eco-lovely. 1 Tablescape by Canvas & Canopy Events (canvasandcanopy.com). Photo by Jose Villa (josevillaphoto.com). 1. Ivory Ashley table linen, by BBJ Linen 4 (bbjlinen.com). 2.
