REMINDERS—AND RENEWAL
The best way to stop breast cancer in its tracks is to have regular mammograms once you hit age 40. North Mississippi Medical Center’s Mobile Mammography unit makes that an easier task for those who live outside Tupelo. The screening mammograms provided on the unit are used to detect breast cancer in women with no current problems. The test can detect cancer before it can be found by physician examination or other methods of diagnosis. Screening mammograms are available through self-referral. The cost of a screening mammogram is $138. Results are read by NMMC radiologists, physicians who specialize in interpreting X-ray, ultrasound and other types of imaging studies. Appointments for all mammography services are scheduled in advance. To schedule a screening mammogram, call 800-THE DESK (800-843-3375). For a schedule, visit www.nmhs.net/breast_care.php and click the “Mobile Mammography” link.
