Quality
50% of the North Mississippi Medical Clinics physicians and Family Medicine Residency Center faculty have NCQA certification in diabetes treatment.
In addition to meeting the quality standards and performance measures set by The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, NMHS has internal safety measures in place to enhance patient care and reduce healthcare costs. Decreasing the incidence of patient falls and pressure ulcers was a major safety initiative. Falls were decreased by 25 percent, and the NMMCTupelo Critical Care Unit had more than 100 days without a pressure ulcer. This year also marked the early stages of NMHS’ new Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program, which empowers staff to assume responsibility for safety in their environment. Disease specific protocols used at North Mississippi Medical Center hospitals, home health, Nurse Link and North Mississippi Medical Clinics factor in NMHS’ quality initiatives. For example, those areas worked closely to manage the care of congestive heart failure patients and have helped reduce patient readmissions by almost 30 percent over the past year.
