PMC Receives National Award— for a Second Year in a Row Parrish Medical Center (PMC) has done it again for the second year in a row. HealthGrades recently named Parrish Medical Center a distinguished hospital for clinical excellence. This prestigious distinction places Parrish Medical Center among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide for clinical performance. HealthGrades is the nation’s most trusted source of healthcare provider information. HealthGrades’ Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study objectively identifies those hospitals with the best overall clinical performance across all 26 medical diagnoses and procedures rated by the organization. These 268 top-performing hospitals represent only 5 percent of the nation’s hospitals and each is designated as a HealthGrades distinguished hospital for clinical excellence. Unlike other hospital quality studies, HealthGrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications. HealthGrades’ analysis is based on approximately 40 million Medicare discharges for 2007, 2008 and 2009. Using these top-performing hospitals as a benchmark in this year’s study, HealthGrades quantifies the impact of differences in hospital quality in terms of lives lost and unexpected complications. Foundation Grants The Jess Parrish Medical Foundation (JPMF) announced Jerry W. Allender, Titusville attorney, as chairman of the foundation’s community grants committee. Allender, who has served on the JPMF board of directors since 1993 and was chairman from 2006 to 2008, is serving a second year as chairman of this committee. Also serving on the committee are Hugh Brown, Santi Bulnes, Kathy Dunn, David Ferguson, Robert Jordan Jr., J.J. Parrish III, Patricia Parrish, Howard Rinker, DDS, and Jason Snodgrass. The JPMF community grants committee provides small grants totaling $50,000 or more each year to not-forprofit organizations that offer health and wellness related services to North Brevard residents.
