Financial Produce financial resources required to support mission and vision As a not-for-profit organization, NMHS works diligently to remain financially strong to ensure that all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, receive the care they need. We are committed to our mission of improving the health of all in our region. In 2011, NMHS provided $81.9 million in charity care. NMHS maintains an AA bond rating with Standard & Poor’s, one of the nation’s largest bond rating agencies. Only 9 percent of health care systems and stand-alone hospitals achieved this rating in FY 2010. Construction continues on the NMMC-Tupelo West Bedtower expansion and renovation project, which is being financed through the issuance of bonds. This year also marked the implementation of a new patient financial system and preparations for a new electronic medical record, designed to enhance patient care and safety. The Central Sterile Processing facility, which opened in 2011, uses high-tech automation and robotics and has reduced the need for flash sterilization.
