Couric’s lifelong passion for learning and sharing her knowledge is also evident in her 2011 best-seller, The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives, in which she culled inspirational stories and guidance from well-known ﬁgures and included some of her own. This fall, the 55-year-old is sharpening those skills in her new career as host of her own daytime gabfest, titled Katie. But perhaps the greatest wisdom Couric has imparted was gained through tragedy. Since losing her husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998, Couric has done everything in her power to educate others about the disease. We will look at her work ﬁghting colon cancer, which she calls her “most meaningful” accomplishment, as well as its effect on ﬁghting the disease and what’s ahead for the future of screening.
