And it never fails that the kids have waited until the last minute to tell you they need a sports physical for school or that your child has taken a tumble during the weekend. At the hospitals of Community Healthcare System, we understand that many illnesses and injuries come up at inconvenient times when the doctor’s office is closed. That’s why Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart offer immediate care services in three convenient locations. Our healthcare professionals are dedicated to providing you with prompt attention and timely diagnoses. “Our immediate care center locations reflect an extension of the high-quality services our patients rely on from our hospitals,” says John Gorski, chief operating officer of Community Healthcare System. “From the care provided by our physicians to the excellence in diagnostic technology, our immediate care sites are an important link through which we can make our quality care as a healthcare system more easily accessible to everyone.” The Community Hospital Outpatient Centre on U.S. 41 in St. John has expanded its immediate care hours to better serve patients during weekday evenings and on the weekends. Last fall, St. Catherine Hospital opened the Hessville Family Care Center in the Hessville neighborhood of Hammond, which includes immediate care services. The Hessville center is conveniently located at 3432 Grand Ave. Later this year, St. Mary Medical Center will open an outpatient facility off Indiana 49 in Valparaiso called The Valparaiso Health Center, which also will include an immediate care center. Since immediate care service hours were expanded in St. John on Sundays and later in the evening, the number of patients has greatly increased, according to Rich Buchler, director of physician practices at Community Hospital Outpatient Centre. “Our patients were looking for expanded hours and we’ve added key people to expand our staff to respond to this need for medical care after most physicians have closed their offices,” Buchler says. All Community Healthcare System immediate care centers are supported by the medical expertise of our Care Network physicians with specialties in family medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics and more.
