Style? I want to gain insight into the healthcare field. I don’t necessarily need to interact with patients. I have a specific skill or talent I’d like to contribute to the hospital. I’d like a volunteer job where I get to interact with patients. I’ve worked in an office before and enjoy tasks like typing. I’d like a volunteer position I could do from home. I’m a medical student. I have skills or education in marketing, advertising or public health. The time I can give will vary week to week. I can give a consistent and ongoing amount of time every week. I’m very organized and find enjoyment in helping others get organized. I’m a crafty person. I’d like to learn more about what hospital staff members do on a daily basis. TOTAL: I have a few hours each week during the daytime that I’d like to give. TOTAL: I’d like a volunteer job my young children could also help with. TOTAL: ONLINE GMC has many opportunities to volunteer in Lawrenceville and Duluth. Visit gwinnettmedicalcenter.org/ volunteers or call 678-312-4318 to learn more. Discover How to Give How Much Do Volunteers Do? You give a few hours here, an afternoon there, but you’re just not sure if your volunteer efforts are doing that much good. Well, rest assured they are, says Cynthia Chandler, director of Volunteer Services at Gwinnett Medical Center. As an example of the cumulative effect volunteers have, in 2010 the volunteers at GMC donated 51,472 total hours of service, Chandler says. Those hours saved the hospital approximately $965,100. That adds up! “From the gift shop to patient transport to our information desk, they’re here to make the experience better for our patients and staff,” she says. Chandler points out that volunteers don’t take the place of paid employees. Hospitals simply don’t have the budget to afford to hire for the positions volunteers fill. “The volunteers are adding these extra perks,” she says. how many boxes you checked in each column, then turn the page to see your results.
