So the first thing to know about stroke is this: You want the fastest, highest-quality care possible. The phrase we use in emergency medicine is time is brain. We have worked diligently and collaboratively over the past six years to reduce our “door-to-needle” time—that’s the time lapsing between a patient’s arrival here, obtaining CT scans and labs, performing a thorough evaluation of the patient to confirm it is a stroke, and then intervention.
