PMC Proves Its Worth
By complying with mandatory legislation, we are reminded
of the exceptional work of our care partners
T
he Florida Legislature ended its session in March 2012 by
passing House Bill 711, known as the Hospital Sale and
Lease Bill, which pertained to all Florida public hospitals
(approximately 30 hospitals).
Under HB 711, every public hospital in the state was required to
evaluate the benefits of selling or leasing its facilities by the end of 2012
(unless the hospital already had entertained offers to sell or lease by
Feb. 1, 2012). Within 160 days of the analysis, the governing boards
of the state’s public hospitals were required to post their findings in a
newspaper and the Florida Administrative Weekly. This analysis was
required in the bill, but it is the individual hospital’s decision to determine whether it
wants to sell or lease its facilities.
As a public, not-for-profit community hospital, Parrish Medical Center (PMC)
complied with HB 711. An evaluation was completed on PMC’s behalf by Cleverly &
Associates, a privately owned professional service organization specializing in information services for the healthcare industry.
At the May 6, 2013, public board meeting, William Cleverly, PhD, founder of
Cleverly & Associates, presented an exceptional review of Parrish Medical Center.
The study gives us a comprehensive picture of PMC’s results and standing in quality
of care, patient service, financial strength, contributions and importance to the community, and other essential operational factors.
The study serves as a tribute to the work of the entire PMC family. I speak for the
board in saying the board is beyond pleased with the information we received from
the evaluators about the work of PMC’s care partners. Without question, the advantage to the community is to keep Parrish Medical Center as it is—a community hospital in service to the North Brevard community. Details of the results of the study
performed by Cleverly were published in Florida Today in May and can be found on
PMC’s website (parrishmed.com).
There are few hospitals in the country, and fewer in Florida, that equal the quality
of care provided by Parrish Medical Center’s care partners—its employees, volunteers
and physicians. Working together to fulfill PMC’s mission, vision and values, they
serve to improve and safeguard the health and lives of the people in our community.
Just one example of the excellent, professional care you’ll receive at PMC is highlighted in the story that begins on page 6 in this issue. Marsha Richardson, our PMC
cancer care navigator, received a national award from her professional peers, which
was presented to her in April in Washington, D.C.
On behalf of our board of directors and PMC care partners, I thank you for your
continued support and the privilege of serving your health and wellness needs.
