1. GIVE OF
YOUR TALENT
Whether you are a high school student, a retiree or
somewhere in between, volunteering is a great way to
get involved and give back to the community in which
you live. At GMC, the volunteer program includes students 16 and older and adults from a variety of backgrounds. These volunteers are dedicated to providing
service to the hospital and its departments, and are
committed to the idea of giving back.
"We have about 300 volunteers," says Cynthia
Chandler, director of volunteer services at GMC. "Last
year, we donated close to 53,000 hours of service."
Volunteers can be seen assisting at GMC-Lawrenceville
and GMC-Duluth in a variety of areas, including running
the gift shop, caring for patients, helping in accounting
and driving the courtesy cart.

and volunteer opportunities, visit

2. GIVE OF
YOUR TREASURE
Cash gifts to honor a loved one, charitable trusts, estate
planning-the GMC Foundation offers a variety of ways
to give. These gifts provide GMC with the ability to grow
and bring new services and technology designed to provide quality health care to the community.
"GMC thrives because of the generosity of others,"
says Jason Chandler, GMC Foundation president. "All
gifts, large or small, play an important role in our ability to serve the community, and we appreciate each and
every donation. The Foundation staff is always happy to
discuss giving opportunities and answer any questions
from members of our community."

3. GIVE OF
YOURSELF
You hear it all the time: Giving blood saves lives.
According to LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, just
1 pint of blood can save up to three lives.
"We generally have four to six public blood drives a
year," says Pam Henderson, BS, MT (ASCP), laboratory
operations manager at GMC-Lawrenceville. "We do this
at both GMC-Lawrenceville and GMC-Duluth."
According to Henderson, giving blood typically
takes about 30 minutes from registration to donation.
Here are a few things to consider when thinking about
blood donation:
* Donors must be age 17 or older (16 with written
parental consent).
* Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds.
* Picture ID is required.
* Please remember to eat iron-rich foods and drink
plenty of noncaffeinated beverages before donating.
If you would like more information about
giving blood, call Pam Henderson at
678-312-2336.
For more information, visit gmcgiving.org
or call 678-312-8500 to speak to a member
of the Foundation staff.
