Expanding Care The Douglas Medical Center expansion provides space for additional services Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation began construction in March Offering expanded services “We are excited not only for the additional medical office space this building will provide, but Also located in the facility will be CMH Wound and Hyperbaric Center, which is currently in the Professional Building. The second floor of the medical office building expansion will have space for six new specialty physicians. The lower level of the building will house the Information Services department. Designed with patients in mind Patients will really appreciate the new entrance and patient-friendly registration area. Also planned in the expansion are a coffee shop and a cafeteria for families of patients and employees. “We understand that patients and their families may spend a lot of time with us as they use our healthcare services,” says Babb. “We want to ensure that the patient needs come first, and we are building this facility with that in mind.” S U M M E R 2 0 1 3 | 15 on a two-story, 80,000-square-foot addition to the Kerry and Synda Douglas Medical Center in Bolivar, Mo. When complete, the facility will be nearly 120,000 square feet. “The new project is expected to cost $18.2 million,” says Donald J. Babb, CEO of Citizens Memorial Hospital and executive director of Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation. Funding for the construction of the project is coming from a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. DeWitt & Associates Inc. was selected as the construction manager for the project, which is expected to take 15 to 17 months to complete. the expansion of the ambulatory surgical area,” says Babb. “In the surgical area, four new surgical suites will be created; an additional new endoscopic lab and the pre- and post-op area will be remodeled in the existing Ambulatory Surgical Center.” The facility will also house a new Imaging Center that will include MRI and PET/CT equipment, and the newly expanded Women’s Center. “The space has been designed so that our patients will be able to receive all of the imaging studies that they may need—mammography, ultrasound and even biopsy—in the same area. It will be private and comfortable for patients and will be a good workspace for us. We are already proud of the service that we provide at the Women’s Center, but the new facility will take us to the next level,” says Jana Horner, M.D., board-certified radiologist with CMH’s Women Center.
