Helping You Live
Healthier in 2013
As the ball dropped in Times Square at midnight, millions of people
made their New Year’s resolutions. Many people probably resolved to lose
weight this year, or possibly, again this year. For some, it takes more than just
making a promise to themselves on Jan. 1st. Teresa Dawson was one of those
people who needed a little extra help.
After much research and with a wonderful
support system in place, Teresa chose bariatric surgery. Read on page 6 about her inspiring story of losing more than 100 pounds
and improving her overall health.
When most of us get a cut or injury, our
bodies are able to heal pretty quickly without much intervention. However, diabetes
and other medical conditions can interfere
with the body’s ability to heal, and even
small cuts or sores may require assistance.
Turn to page 10 to learn how specialists at
UNC Health Care treat wounds that won’t
heal on their own and the life-changing
impact that can have for patients.
We hope you enjoy this issue of Well!
