New Patient Portal Provides
More Features
Access your health records, schedule
appointments and pay bills online.
P
atients who have been using
the online patient portal
myUNCHealthLink
will
love the expanded features
available through My UNC
Chart. This new portal gives UNC
Health Care's patients access to their personal health records and lab results from
the comfort of their homes, and enables
secure access from iOS or Android smartphones and tablets through the My UNC
Chart app. Patients can make payments
online toward outstanding balances and
access up to 18 billing account summaries. With My UNC Chart, patients
can communicate with their physicians,
request prescription refills and schedule
appointments directly.
In April, UNC Health Care launched
a new electronic medical record (EMR)
system, and the patient portal associated
with this EMR system, My UNC Chart,
has replaced myUNCHealthLink. It provides coordinated, real-time information
for both patients and their medical providers to ensure the highest quality of
care possible.
The new EMR system eventually
will reach across all UNC Health Care
locations, which will create one system
for medical records across UNC Health
Care. It provides a full financial, scheduling, clinical and patient portal for UNC
Health Care patients.

Why Now?
"We have entered a new era of health care
where accountability for quality and costs
for individual patients and populations is
required. This requires integrated clinical
care by teams of health care professionals who can share information with one
another," says Allen Daugird, MD, MBA,
president of UNC Physicians.
For many years, UNC
Hospitals relied upon its
own EMR system.
Meanwhile,
UNC
Health Care affiliates, Rex Healthcare
and Chatham Hospital,
as well as much of UNC
Physicians Network, were working with completely separate EMR
systems. Additionally, many more separate
information technology systems were
used throughout UNC Health Care to
support functions such as pharmacy, registration, scheduling and billing.
UNC Health Care has replaced the
most important of these systems with
integrated software of clinical and financial products that provide real-time data
for patients and providers.

an Account with myUNCHealthLink?
On April 4, My UNC Chart replaced myUNCHealthLink with more features
and more ways to stay connected.
You will still need to log on to myUNCHealthLink to pay UNC Hospitals
or UNC Faculty Physicians bills for care provided before April 4, 2014.
However, for all care provided after April 4, 2014, you will use My UNC Chart
to make a payment.
