SMART SECURITY MEASURES
These are typically made up of a secured cabinet or pull-out drawer, display
screen, fingerprint reader, and can
be equipped with an optional camera
and/or signature pad to collect additional key holder information and
operating software.
Many electronic key control systems
can be set up to auto-notify residents,
conduct real-time auditing and generate
email notifications for key counts, keys
not returned, and so on. The keys are
stored with no identifying information
on them and no "code sheet" is required
to be maintained. Systems typically
require an annual support agreement,
software updates, etc. Support on the
system is often performed remotely by
on-site staff.
AUDIO/VIDEO INTERCOMS
From the main console, an operator can
hear, see, and potentially release a door at
the remote location.

These systems are made up of a main
console connected to one or more stations at remote locations with more
advanced models having multiple main
consoles. They may include the ability
to connect to a wireless device via Wi-Fi
network, and the video portion on many
systems can be connected to a video camera network in order to capture a record
of the individuals granted access.
They are designed to allow for two-way
communication and often used to screen
access remotely and provide temporary
access. For example, a pedestrian door at
a loading dock that can be connected to a
lobby desk so desk staff can communicate
and provide access, if appropriate, while
not leaving the desk area.
Typically installed at controlled pedestrian doors, loading dock doors, secondary perimeter access points, service
entrances, and front entrance gates, these
systems require wiring infrastructure
and planning prior to installation. Many

systems have various equipment configurations and expansion capabilities.
EMERGENCY CALL STATIONS
Call stations are typically installed in
parking and garage areas, fitness centers,
and pool areas. These stations provide a
direct connection to the local police via
911 dialing. They are often used to provide
an emergency communication option
in areas of poor or no cell phone service
and/or areas of isolation.
Inexpensive and easy to install, these
calling stations require some planning
prior to installation, often along with
power and a dedicated phone line. They
require regular inspection and testing
to ensure they are working properly
when needed. They also require resident
awareness and signage so your residents
understand they are contacting the local
police and not a lobby desk or on-site staff
when activated.
TELEPHONE ENTRY SYSTEMS
These systems are typically installed in
lobby vestibules and allow residents to
remotely grant their guests access to the
building. They come in many forms and
configurations with a varied range of features and functions and have a very wide
range in price depending on features,
system size, etc. The basic units consist of
a simple screen, listing units or resident
names, and a keypad. When the user
enters the corresponding code, the visitor
is connected by phone to the resident
and the resident can remotely release the
lobby door to allow access. Some systems
have a main unit in the vestibule with
direct wiring to audio/video displays in
each residential unit. Audio and video
travel between the two devices and again,
the resident is allowed to release the
lobby door.
High-end systems utilize the internet and apps for smart devices to allow
for video conferencing between the
guest and resident and remote door
release. Higher-end systems that rely
on the internet often have recurring
monthly charges. These systems also
typically require much more equipment to operate.
