Ringer's other major successes include winning the 1993 FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship and British Rally Championship in 1991, 1992 and 1998. Pastrana and Ringer drive Subaru STIs prepared by Vermont SportsCar as part of Subaru Rally Team USA. SS: Of all your 2007 competitors, who worries you the most? TP: As far as sheer speed, Ken Block has proven to be the fastest driver, and if he can figure out how to stay on the road I think he will be the biggest threat. Andrew Pinker proved to be very consistent and a huge threat, especially in the mountains of the Northwest. Having said that, I am most worried about the current X Games Gold medalist and drifting champion Tanner Foust. If he continues to improve at the rate he was after the X Games, it could be a long year for everyone else. SS: The level of competition in Rally America is always rising. Do you think you can win a third championship? TP: Rally America is gaining popularity, and new sponsorships are allowing the talented drivers in all classes to move up and drive competitive cars with a legitimate shot to win the championship. Combine that with new teams entering the championship with top European drivers, and it makes things a lot more interesting. Every driver believes they can win, and I am no exception. This is going to be a tough year, but with the help of Subaru Rally Team USA and the completely new 2008 chassis, I believe [Derek] and I are the team everyone will have to gun for. TRAVIS PASTRANA AND DEREK RINGER are certainly the team to beat in 2008. With back-to-back national championships and P-WRC experience under his belt, Pastrana dominated the Sno*Drift rally until an unwary deer literally gummed up their works. Ringer replaces Christian Edstrom, who left after just two rounds of the 2008 season. Pastrana, 24, came to rally three years ago from the freestyle Motocross circuit, having won virtually everything there is to win at the X Games on a motorcycle and contending in the AMA Supercross Championship. Ringer, a professional co-driver since 1988, is best known for his success co-driving for WRC-legend Colin McRae in the early 1990s.
