EDITOR’S LETTER Tools and Techniques for the IT Professional Independence Day DANIEL MARGOLIS This is the first all-digital edition of Certification Magazine, and we’re happy to be declaring our independence from paper, ink, saddle stitching, postal requirements and everything else associated with a print run. But we’re doing more here than just crossing line items off our budget. We’ve also added several new sections to the magazine to expand our purview and provide you with the best content possible. First is our IT Culture feature. The thinking behind this new feature is that as computers exert more and more control over our lives, we want to examine the effects of that in a way that is informative and entertaining. This expands on territory we’ve explored in our Endtag column over the years. In that space, we’ve seen the magazine come to take on a voice of its own, and we want to give that voice more airtime. Next is our new Troubleshooting column. Our Dear Techie column, introduced last year, has proven to be a success story in giving IT pros a place to seek career advice. The idea for that column sprung from our forums, where columnists Wayne Anderson and Ken Wagner already had been holding court for some time. We recognize that people also come to our forums, and IT forums in general, when they’re having a particular tech problem and want to seek advice from their peers as far as a solution. This column tackles such questions, exposing the real nuts and bolts of the solution provided. We’ve also added a column called Look Ahead that looks at newly emergent technology concepts, devices or platforms. This section is designed to appeal to the technologist as much as the techie. Determining where the IT field is headed is a fascinating subject for our readership and readers in general, and to a large extent may determine the shape of our future. We heard a little bit of protest in going all digital, both in e-mail and on our forums, but it fell far short of an avalanche, so we trust that you, our CertMag readership, are moving with us into the 21st century.
