Managed Care - July 2008 - (Page Bellyband2) WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS Serious and sometimes fatal side effects have been reported with CIMZIA, including tuberculosis and other serious infections. Use of TNF blockers, including CIMZIA, may increase the risk of reactivation of hepatitis B virus. Cases of lymphoma and other malignancies have been observed among patients receiving TNF blockers, including CIMZIA. Anaphylaxis or serious allergic reactions may occur. Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported rarely following CIMZIA administration. Rare reports of blood dyscrasias have been reported with CIMZIA; patients should be advised to seek medical attention if symptoms develop. Treatment with TNF blockers, including CIMZIA, may rarely result in the development of a lupus-like syndrome, as well as the new onset or exacerbation of clinical symptoms and/or radiographic evidence of demyelinating disease. Cases of worsening congestive heart failure (CHF) and new onset CHF have been reported with TNF blockers. Concurrent administration of anakinra with TNF blockers has shown an increased risk of serious infections. The most common adverse reactions observed in controlled clinical trials (incidence 5% and higher than placebo) were upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, and arthralgia.
