In this study, mean caffeine intake was 159 mg/day, dropping from 238 mg/day before pregnancy to 139 mg/day between weeks 5 and 12 of gestation. Most of the caffeine came from tea, followed by coffee, cola drinks, and chocolate. Soft drinks, hot chocolate, energy drinks, alcoholic drinks, and over-the-counter medications each contributed 2% or less. Of 2,635 women in the study, 343 experienced restricted fetal growth. More than 200 mg/day of caffeine during pregnancy was associated with a reduction in birth weight of 60 to 70 g. The higher the caffeine intake, the greater the reduction in birth weight in all trimesters. Women contemplating pregnancy should try to reduce their caffeine intake before conception. Among the women with at least one episode per week, more than half of the episodes were classified as stress incontinence and 18% were classified as urge incontinence. The similarities in the relationship of urinary incontinence with hormone therapy in the age groups suggest that mulcontinued on page 105 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 76 P&T® • February 2009 • Vol. 34 No. 2 http://www.cephalon.com/fileadmin/newsroom/assets/Treanda_pi.pdf http://www.cephalon.com/fileadmin/newsroom/assets/Treanda_pi.pdf http://www.cephalon.com/fileadmin/newsroom/assets/Treanda_pi.pdf http://www.nccn.org/about/news/newsinfo.asp?NewsID=136 http://www.nccn.org/about/news/newsinfo.asp?NewsID=136 http://www.cephalon.com http://www.cephalon.com http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/nda/2008/22249s000_SumR.pdf http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/nda/2008/22249s000_SumR.pdf http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/nda/2008/22249s000_SumR.pdf http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/nda/2008/22249s000_SumR.pdf
