Designed for senior executives, nurses, physicians, management engineer - process improvement (ME-PI) professionals and federal health sector professionals, these five, multi-session programs are T Connect by Profession through HIMSS09 Synergy Sessions offered at no additional charge to conference attendees on Sunday morning, April 5, prior to the opening keynote address. Senior Executive Synergy Sessions begin with a CIO panel discussion on project portfolio management practices, trends and challenges. In the second session, senior executives learn an approach to quantify IT resource capacity, establish targets for work categories and measure performance. The closing session highlights strategies to leverage leadership and technology to transform culture, and drive outcomes and interdepartmental collaboration. Nursing Synergy Sessions include panel discussions led by chief nursing officers from leading technology vendors sharing current product innovations, emerging technologies and case studies of how clients optimized system capabilities related to nursing workflow. The two-session program begins with an overview of the American Academy of Nursing Workforce Commission's goal to develop models for technologyenhanced practice environments to improve nursing efficiency and effectiveness. Physician Synergy Sessions start with a presentation on the legal health record in the age of e-discovery. The second session highlights technology solutions available to simplify coding and billing at the point-of-care, as well as the key features that support real-time revenue optimization. The closing session provides physicians with ways to improve difficult-to-use EMR systems, as well as ways to increase and improve innovation within their organizations. The Synergy Sessions for ME-PI professionals explore three important facets of their role to help control operating costs and maximize the effectiveness of available resources. Sessions cover nurse staffing standards for patient safety; core performance indicators for quality care and methodologies to successfully manage them; as well as successes and obstacles of Lean and Six Sigma projects in healthcare. The Federal Health Sector Synergy Sessions begin with a presentation on how the Federal Health Architecture provides innovative solutions to help agencies exchange health information and implement the National Health IT Agenda. The next session examines the benefits of sharing health information electronically between public health and HIEs. The closing presentation shares the progress and achievements of the National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved. Over the past 10 years, EMMC has made excellent progress in EHR implementation, including 100 percent EHR maturity level for HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model SM Stages 1 through 4 and active pursuit of Stages 5 through 7. CPOE is used 100 percent by providers in the inpatient and primary-care settings; technical infrastructure provides reliability, performance and enables future growth. The Davies Awards recognize excellence in the implementation and use of healthcare IT in four categories: organizational, ambulatory, community health and public health.
