Healthcare IT News - January 2009 - (Page 20) 20 The HIMSS Insider I January 2009 www.HealthcareITNews.com Hogan and Mitchell lead chapters, collaborate on education Pauline Hogan, FHIMSS, has pro- NOVEMBER SPIRIT OF HIMSS AWARD vided leadership and substantial time and energy to the HIMSS Wisconsin Dairyland Chapter; she served as president in 2005-2006. Ms. Hogan was the driving force behind many successful Chapter events, including what is now the Midwest Chapters Fall Technology Conference, an event focusing on education and emerging technologies in healthcare IT and management systems. For five consecutive years, Ms. Hogan, a performance improvement engineer with Franciscan Skemp-Mayo Hospital in Wisconsin, served as conference planning committee chair, managing all planning tasks, including the call for proposals, speakers, vendors and logistics. Over the years, the Fall Technology Conference has grown into a multi-Chapter, twoday event featuring keynote speakers, targeted education sessions and social events. Ms. Hogan's effort and dedication paved the way to make the conference continually successful and of great benefit for HIMSS Members. In 2008, Ms. Hogan handed over the reigns as conference planning committee chair to Dawn Mitchell, MBA, of the Greater Chicago Chapter. Ms. Mitchell served as president of the Greater Chicago Chapter in 2006-2007, and in several other roles on the board. The director of sales for healthcare and education with Laurus Technologies, Ms. Mitchell took on the responsibility of moving the conference to a new state and managing committee tasks across all Chapters involved. As a result of its success, the Midwest Fall Technology Conference has expanded to include the Greater Chicago, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota Chapters. Beginning in early 2008, Ms. Mitchell scheduled committee calls to begin organizing committee roles, conference dates, location and logistics. Also, this was the first year the event expanded to include pre-conference events such as the Midwest Nursing Informatics Symposium. Once again, the conference had a great lineup of speakers, over 40 exhibitors and valuable educational opportunities for close to 300 attendees. Details on this year's conference are available at www.2008falltechnologyconference.com. Each year, the conference grows and creates visibility for HIMSS, bringing in new members and supporting the HIMSS Mission. The dedication and effort that Ms. Hogan and Ms. Mitchell have contributed, along with the conference planning committee, have created a significant annual HIMSS event in the Midwest region, thus, demonstrating Ms. Hogan and Ms. Mitchell's Spirit of HIMSS. Nominations for the Spirit of HIMSS Award are submitted to the Membership Committee for consideration. Nominations should be submitted to HIMSS Member Services Program Manager Jessica Bird at jbird@him ss.org, and should include a brief description explaining the accomplishments of the member and how he or she earns the recognition of the Spirit of HIMSS.
