Cognizant of provider concerns, he said, “We want to provide a resource and education to ease those (privacy and security) fears and knock down those barriers.” Biggio sees the Web site as a means of educating and getting the word out to provider associations. “We envision a clearinghouse for people who need information about security and privacy of HIEs,” said Rex Gantenbein, CRHRE director at the University of Wyoming’s College of Health Sciences. The Web site will serve as a reliable resource where providers can search for relevant content and current information regarding HIPAA issues and federal and state statues surrounding privacy and security. The site offers self-study HIPAA courses. It will be a source where providers can share best practices, look up funding resources and see what technology is available. Biggio acknowledged the need for a mechanism for interoperability and compatibility among healthcare IT systems in Wyoming and nearby states.
