Pr o m p t e’s products, HealthQuestionnaire and PreOpPlanner, help collect a MOBILE, AL – patient’s health history, identify surgical risks and set up a checklist for pre-operative surgical planning. Such information can assist healthcare providers in identifying any allergies or other medical conditions that may lead to adverse events during surgery or post-surgical care. HealthQuestionnaire allows patients to use touch-screen technology, either in the healthcare setting or at home via a Web-based connection, to create a health history. That information is used to create a risk score, which is used by the surgical team to determine anesthetic and surgical risks prior to surgery. PreOpPlanner then uses the health history and risk score to develop a list of preoperative requirements, recommendations and instructions for both patient and healthcare provider. DocuSys, which has worked with Prompte for two years, has used information gathered by Prompte’s software to pre-populate the DocuSys PreAnesthesia Evaluation module. “We’ve already seen how the combination of the Prompte technology and DocuSys solutions can help healthcare providers streamline workflow, save valuable time and allow the clinician to focus on the patient instead of collecting data,” said DocuSys President and CEO Robert Watson. “Healthcare providers rely on up-to-date information to make informed decisions regarding patient care,” said David Young, Prompte’s founder and an attending anesthesiologist at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago. “Prompte’s integration surgICal see page 69 INvEsTors Continued from page 65 three and the company over the company’s reaction to the Philips announcement. Shareholders of the company, which provides electronic medical transcription, health information and document management products and services, voted at the Dec. 31, 2007 annual meeting to elect Brian O’Donoghue, Clement Rivetti, Jr., Stephen H. Rusckowski, Mark E. Schwarz, Gregory M. Sebasky and Scott M. Weisenhoff to one-year terms on the board of directors, or until the election and qualification of their successors. Some minority shareholders had petitioned the company to appoint a new board of directors with no direct connection to Philips, saying the company’s “exploration of strategic alternatives” may cater more to Philips’ interests than those of MedQuist’s shareholders. Costa Brava officials sent a letter to shareholders expressing concern over the company’s strategy and put forth a separate slate of candidates with no connection to Philips, but that slate was rejected. O’Donoghue and Schwarz are new to the board, having been appointed as independent members last Dec. 7, and neither was on the list proposed by Costa Brava. The other four, all of which have connections to Philips, were retained at the Dec. 31 annual meeting. MedQuist last year submitted an application for listing on the NASDAQ Global Select Market. The company’s common stock has traded on the over-the-counter “Pink Sheets” market under the symbol “MEDQ.PK” since June 16, 2004, the date on which its common stock was delisted from the NASDAQ National Market. In 2004, MedQuist was accused by an employee of improperly charging some of its customers. The company conducted its own internal investigation and switched to a new billing methodology. It also weathered investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts. Last March, the company agreed to pay $7.75 million to settle a class action lawsuit brought by shareholders. ■ More at HealthcareITNews.com e Connect: iNVeStorS 0208 driving collaboration and change throughout healthcare Let Covisint show you.
