I IMSS AnalyticsTM, the authoritative source on EMR adoption trends, has recently unveiled the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award, a prestigious honor that recognizes healthcare organizations that have achieved a paperless EMR environment. Stage 7 is the final step of the eight-step process comprising the EMR Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM), launched by HIMSS Analytics in 2005. Hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database are scored based on completing eight stages (0-7) of EMR adoption and utilization. Stage 0 is defined as having one or two of the three essential ancillary department applications implemented (lab, radiology and pharmacy). Stage 7 is the pinnacle of the EMR Adoption Model. Stage 7 organizations have a paperless EMR environment with fully implemented clinical documentation and computerized practitioner order entry with clinical decision support. Clinical information can be readily shared via Continuity of Care Document (CCD) or other standardized clinical summary transactions with other entities Peak of the Paperless EMR Environment How Does Stage 7 H Award Compare to tals. “We're looking to honor and recognize those hospitals that have had the vision, spent the time and money on complete implementations of electronic medical records systems, and can document the ability to share the discrete data they capture with other provider organizations in pursuit of comprehensive summary datasets for patients in their communities,” said Dave Garets, president and CEO, HIMSS Analytics. “There are very few organizations that have made it to Stage 7 so far, and they richly deserve our recognition.” The Stage 7 Award recognizes those hospitals that have fulfilled each EMRAM stage to the highest level by using specified technologies and applications.
