Ms. McCarthy has held a variety of positions on the Chapter's board of directors, this past year JANUARY SPIRIT OF HIMSS AWARD assuming the role of HIMSS Colorado Chapter President. Since beginning her tenure on CHIMSS' Board, she has demonstrated an extremely high commitment to quality leadership and organization. Ms. McCarthy was instrumental in revitalizing CHIMSS resources and member benefits by fortifying education objectives and increasing profes- sional and networking opportunities for all members. She has improved the Chapter's governance and transition planning by enhancing board job descriptions, conducting a review and updating Chapter bylaws, and reevaluating overall program costs and revenue generation. With more than 20 years of healthcare IT experience, Ms. McCarthy has motivated, engaged and sustained the CHIMSS Board by 'leading from the front' with an attitude that influences not only CHIMSS Board members, but also the Colorado healthcare industry environment as a whole. With her clear sense of purpose and mission, Ms. McCarthy, the director of business technology and integration for Exempla Healthcare, has been able to set goals and focus on the CHIMSS Board's commitment to achieving its objectives. Ms. McCarthy demonstrates the “Spirit of HIMSS” with her unwavering passion for improving and advancing healthcare IT in the state of Colorado. s Nominations for the “Spirit of HIMSS” Award are submitted to the Membership Committee for consideration. Nominations should be submitted to HIMSS Member Services Manager Jessica Bird at jbird@himss.org, and should include a brief description explaining the accomplishments of the member and how he or she earns the recognition of the “Spirit of HIMSS.” Recipients will be selected and announced in the HIMSS Insider and HIMSS Weekly Insider. One annual honoree is selected from the recipients each year. HIMSS introduces IMSS has developed Business Conduct Guidelines in response to requests from members who are seeking information on the anti-kickback statute and how increasing oversight by the HHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG) might impact healthcare IT transactions for both buyers and sellers. The guidelines address the following business practices and arrangements: Healthcare IT Supplier Demonstrations, Site Visits and Education; Third Party Educational Conferences; Consulting Relationships; Sales and Promotional Meetings; Charitable Donations and Gifts. These guidelines do not present information as legal advice and HIMSS encourages all members to work with their organizations' compliance officers to develop specific codes of business conduct.
