The 20 year-old CTCA network adopted technology from the Atlanta-based Eclipsys Corp., including a computerized physician order entry system and KnowledgeSCHAUMBUrG, Il Based Charting software for clinical documentation. CTCA officials said the network’s hospitals had achieved 100-percent adoption on the first day of the activation. “Our joint effort to bring the project in on an 18-month schedule and on-budget with 100 percent adoption of CPOE speaks to the strong commitment from both organizations to execute a successful activation,” said Chad A. Eckes, chief infor- mation officer at CTCA. “Our team focused on rigorous project management controls to deliver the effort on-target. We are very excited about the rapid time to value we achieved.” CTCA specializes in treating cancer patients living with complex and advanced-stage disease. Patients often travel across the country and between the CTCA hospitals for specialized care. The CTCA care model combines traditional medical treat- ments with scientifically supported complementary therapies. The new technology at CTCA hospitals provides physicians with a clinical summary, which offers a comprehensive overview of inpatient and outpatient patient data, including the ability to review and change orders, results, documentation, medications and allergies. ■ More at HealthcareITnews.com e Connect: CtCa 0508 l (50 percent), health information management managers (21 percent) and chief security officers (12 percent), among others working in the area of information management. Most respondents were from small to mid-sized healthcare facilities. “Until healthcare organizations expand their data security measures to address the threat of data compromise as well as privacy and compliance, patients will continue to be at risk,” said Brian Lapidus, chief operating officer of Kroll Fraud Solutions. “The number one priority of U.S. healthcare institutions is saving the lives of those in need and rightly so, I might add,” said Lisa Gallagher, senior director of privacy and security for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). “But patient safety extends beyond clinical care. This data tells us that organizations must also broaden their data security and risk management measures to address the threat of patient data breach.” ■ More at HealthcareITnews.com e Connect: StUdY 0508 l CapTure Continued from page 11 things their own way,” she added. M.D. Anderson, one of the world’s top-ranked comprehensive cancer care centers, is currently training about 120 nurses on the new system, which English expects to go live next month. “The nurses are really, really anxious,” she said. M.D. Anderson will be rolling out the desktop-based technologies to eight infusion centers, in which more than 100 nurses deliver more than 200 infusions each day. The solutions will include dashboard reconciliation functionality, enabling further streamlining of charge review, approval and transmission processes. In addition, M.D. Anderson will be able to use MedAptus’ Cross Reconciliation Engine, which allows for data analysis of entered charges to identify overlooked opportunities. Following that implementation, M.D. Anderson will roll out MedAptus’ Facility Charge Capture platform, which is the base for the Facility Charge Capture module, to more than 25 departments that deliver outpatient services. With Facility Charge Capture, officials plan to manage all technical charges, from collaborative capture at point-of-care to reconciliation, coding and compliance tasks in the back office. The two solutions are add-ons to MedAptus’ Professional Charge Capture technology suite, which M.D. Anderson has been using since 2005. ■ More at HealthcareITnews.com e Connect: CaPtUre 0508 l e l Connect: eLSeVIer 0508 http://www.HealthcareITNews.com http://HealthcareITnews.com http://www.healthcareitnews.com/story.cms?id=9167 http://HealthcareITnews.com http://www.healthcareitnews.com/story.cms?id=9161 http://www.clinicaldecisionsupport.com http://www.clinicaldecisionsupport.com http://HealthcareITnews.com http://www.healthcareitnews.com/story.cms?id=9163 http://www.healthcareitnews.com/story.cms?id=9201
