The integration with Google Health will enable BCBSMA’s members to import their claims data into their Google Health profile. In doing so, BCBSMA members will be able to organize, manage and store their health information in one place, as well as share it with healthcare providers and third-party services. The platform will also allow members to download medical records and prescription history from connected providers, such as retail pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers, labs and doctors’ offices. Additional functions include searches for physicians and hospitals and information on potential drug-to-drug interactions. “Our members tell us they want easier and more portable access to their healthcare information,” said Steven Fox, BCBSMA’s vice president of Provider Network Management. “Having this informa- tion in one place can play an important role in managing a member’s health and helping members and their doctors make healthcare decisions that can improve the quality of care they receive.” BCBSMA members will have to start a Google Health Account and authorize the import and sharing of their claims data with Google Health. Members who wish to discontinue or delete their Google Health profile will be able to do so at any time. “We believe Google Health will be an important tool used by our members to improve the safety and effectiveness of their healthcare,” said Cleve Killingsworth, chairman and CEO of BCBSMA. MICHIGan Continued from page 27 W OR K FL O W management systems are evolving to MITA, the Medicaid IT Architecture, which is a Web-based, patient-centric, enterprise-oriented interoperable system based on industry IT standards that allows data-sharing across boundaries and is the foundation for e-health initiatives such as EHRs and e-prescribing. Gore pointed out that Webcentric systems are the “medium of choice” over proprietary, legacy systems – mainframe-based or client-server systems – which do not allow choice over replacement of components or integration of best-of-breed products. With so many anticipated policy changes, new or updated benefit packages and program expansion or contraction of the benefit population, Gore said that rules-engine technology can best streamline the process and reduce the time to implement changes in production. ■ More at HealthcareITnews.com e Connect: MICHIGaN 0708 D OCUME NT next pilot,” Tunis Doo said. Dave Syposs, vice president of marketing for HealthTrio, said HealthTrio’s hope is that it presents a useful product that elderly consumers adopt. “There’s a lot more we can do,” he said. He expects additional data, such as quality data on hospitals and physicians, to be added later. Palmetto GBA sees the ability for beneficiaries to access claims data in a user-friendly manner as a valueadded service to beneficiaries and potentially those to whom beneficiaries grant access to their records, such as other physicians. “Because fee-for-service does not employ a primary physician as gatekeeper, a PHR can provide a more global view of a beneficiary’s care than would be available on a physician-tophysician basis,” Quarles said. “This pilot is part of developing the future,” Tunis Doo said. With standards evolving and systems being enhanced, and this pilot supporting other CMS electronic tools, “I believe we will get there.” she said. ■ IN TEGR ATED Streamline Health document management solutions integrate across the enterprise Streamline Health in Action Download our case studies to learn how our solutions create operational efficiences.
